Joint B.A./M.Ed. Program with the Graduate School of Education
The GSE’s Office of Student and Academic Services works in conjunction with GSE faculty to offer this unique 5-year teacher education program as well as traditional two- year post-baccalaureate teacher certification/endorsement programs in a variety of subject areas.
Africana Studies majors are eligible to apply to enroll in Social Studies Education or Elementary Education with either Preschool through 3rd Grade, Middle School, or Special Education certification.

How the Program Works
Apply by February 1 of your junior year
• Earn Bachelor of Arts degree from SAS with a major in Africana Studies
• Earn Masters degree in Education and complete teacher preparation via the GSE
• Earn teacher certification through the NJ Department of Education

South Africa Initiative:
This unique two-week, three-credit summer program places GSE students in South African communities and schools.
The major goal of this cultural immersion experience is to provide adult learners with on-going opportunities to directly experience society from a different socio-cultural context.
