Sam (they/them) graduated with a BA in political theory from the University of California, Berkeley. Sam also worked as Director of Operations at the Young Women's Freedom Center in San Francisco during their undergraduate studies. YWFC is an organization that seeks to support system-involved youth, women, nonbinary, and transgender people in their process of self-liberation. Sam's current research focuses on transmasculinity, incarceration, and medicalization in the twentieth-century United States.
